Caesarean wound care at home in Singapore is typically S$130–200 per visit with us, consumables at cost. An SNB-registered nurse comes to you, checks how the wound is healing, changes the dressing, and leaves a written summary for your doctor. The reason most people ask for this is simple and has nothing to do with the wound: getting a newborn out of the flat, into a taxi and through a clinic waiting room, eight days after abdominal surgery, is genuinely hard. It does not have to be done.

Most visits use only the basic pack above. The upper figure covers a caesarean wound that needs an advanced dressing — foam, hydrocolloid or silver — or a sterile staple remover. Those are billed at supplier cost and only when they are actually used, so a straightforward visit costs the lower figure.

What happens during the visit

  • The nurse asks how you have been and how the wound has felt since discharge.
  • The old dressing is removed and the wound and surrounding skin are checked.
  • The wound is cleaned and a fresh dressing applied.
  • Staples or sutures are removed if they are due and the wound is ready.
  • You are shown what normal healing looks like and what would be worth reporting.
  • A written visit summary is left for your own doctor or the hospital team.

Who needs this

Women recovering at home after a caesarean section who need a dressing changed, a wound checked, or reassurance about whether what they are seeing is normal — including anyone discharged with a dressing still in place and no easy way back to the hospital.

How often: Often one or two visits in the first fortnight, timed around feeds. More if the wound needs watching.

When to call a doctor

  • Increasing redness spreading out from the wound, or the skin feeling hot
  • Discharge or pus from the wound, or a smell
  • The wound edges separating or opening
  • Fever, chills, or feeling generally unwell
  • Heavy vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal pain, or calf pain and swelling — go to A&E

Frequently asked questions

How much does caesarean wound care at home cost?

Can you come when the baby is sleeping?
We schedule around feeds wherever we can. Tell us the window that works and we will try to fit it — the visit itself is usually 20 to 30 minutes.
When do caesarean staples or stitches come out?
Commonly around five to ten days after the operation, but follow the timing your obstetric team gave you. The nurse checks the wound is ready before removing anything.
Is what I am seeing normal?
Some bruising, mild tenderness and a little clear ooze in the first days are common. Spreading redness, pus, a smell, wound edges separating or a fever are not, and are worth getting looked at. If you are unsure, message us a photo.
Do I need a referral from my obstetrician?
No referral is needed to book a nurse visit. Bring your discharge summary if you have one — it tells the nurse what was used to close the wound.
