Preparing Your Home for a Nurse Visit

A few minutes of preparation makes a home visit smoother and safer. Here's a simple checklist.

General care information, not personal medical advice. Draft — pending clinical review.

Set up a clean, well-lit space

Clear a clean surface near where the patient will be, with good lighting. A small table for supplies and a chair for the patient or nurse goes a long way.

Have supplies and medications ready

If you've been asked to have certain consumables or medications at home, lay them out. If you're not sure what's needed, ask when you book — a good provider will give you a list.

Gather the paperwork

  • Discharge summary or referral letter, if you have one
  • A current list of medications
  • Any previous visit summaries

Note your questions

Write down anything you want to ask. A home visit is a good chance to learn how to manage care confidently between visits.
